Here are some of the programs the Geosciences majors have recently participated in, and received course credit toward the major:
- Williams-Mystic Program in Maritime Studies
- DIS Copenhagen
- Frontiers Abroad New Zealand
- Arcadia: University of Otago, New Zealand
- SIT Iceland & Greeland: Climate Change and the Arctic
- IFSA University of Edinburgh
Students can participate in the Williams-Mystic program as early as their sophomore year. See this page for a timeline of the Williams-Mystic application process. For study away during your junior year, start thinking about it the fall of your sophomore year, and go to a study away info session to learn about the process. You must also attend a study away advising session during your sophomore fall in order to be eligible for study away your junior year.
Students may get up to 2 courses of major credit via non-Williams abroad programs. Usually, these will count towards the 9 courses for the major as electives. In some circumstances, you may be able to get core course major credit for abroad courses if they cover similar content as our own courses and have a lab component. We cannot pre-approve major credit. If you’re interested in study away, discuss the programs you’re interested in and courses that may qualify for major credit with the Geosciences department chair. In order to receive core course major credit, students must submit a comprehensive syllabus to the department chair after completion of the abroad program
